Vinegar and Baking Soda

We tried this on Friday. Well, yeah,
sort of. This is an experiment that can be very cool if done correctly, or
very disappointing if done incorrectly. So here is how it should be done.
Supplies:
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Water bottle
Instructions:
Fill the water bottle halfway with vinegar. Add ¼
cup baking soda to this and stand back.
The effect is supposed to be that the white foam
comes pouring out of the top. The problem with our version is that we used
containers with wide mouths. One didn’t do anything at all as it barely filled
to the top. The other worked, kind of, but not like it does with the water
bottles. My older charge asked, “So what’s supposed to happen?” I laughed and
said that that was it. He seemed majorly bummed so I let him do his own experiment.
Oh well, lesson learned. And now I can post this
knowledge to you!
Have you tried this before? Has it worked better in
other situations?
